Privacy Policy

NomCal · Last updated 7 August 2026

NomCal is built and operated by Jignesh Sawant, an independent developer. This policy explains exactly what the app collects, where it goes, and how to get rid of it. There are no ads in this app, and your data is never sold or shared for advertising.

What the app collects

DataWhy
Your name and email address, via Sign in with AppleSign in with Apple is the only way to create an account, so there is no password and we never see or store one. Apple gives us your email address — a private relay address unless you chose to share your real one — which identifies your account and syncs your diary across devices. On your first sign-in only, Apple may also share your name; if it does, we save it to your profile. You can edit or clear your name at any time in Settings → Profile, and leaving it blank does not affect anything in the app.
Profile details: height, weight, target weight, age, biological sex, activity level, goalTo calculate your recommended calorie and macro targets. All of it is optional and you can leave any field blank.
Food entries, recipes, and weight logThe core function of the app. Stored so your diary is available on any device you sign in to.
Voice logging transcriptsWhen you log by voice, your speech is converted to text on your device by Apple's speech recognition. Only the resulting text is sent to our server and to Anthropic's Claude API to be turned into food items and macros. Transcripts and their results are stored so we can diagnose bad parses and improve accuracy.
Barcode numbers and food search termsSent to Open Food Facts and the USDA FoodData Central database to look up nutrition information. Camera images are processed entirely on your device and are never uploaded or stored.
Basic usage eventsWe record that the app was opened, that a food entry was logged (and whether it was manual, voice, barcode, recipe, or repeat), and that a recipe was created. We deliberately do not record what you ate in these events.
Subscription statusWhether you have an active subscription, provided by Apple and RevenueCat. We never see or handle your payment card details.

Apple Health

If you turn on the Apple Health integration, the app writes your logged nutrition and weight to Health, and reads your active energy, step count, and weight from it. Health data stays between your device and the Health app — it is never sent to our servers, never used for advertising or marketing, and never shared with anyone. You can revoke access at any time in the Health app under Sharing, and turn the integration off in Settings → Apple Health.

Who else processes your data

What we never do

Deleting your data

You can permanently delete your account and everything in it from inside the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account. This immediately and irreversibly removes your account itself — including your name and email address — along with your profile, food entries, recipes, weight history, and goals, from our servers and from your device.

Stored voice transcripts are disconnected from your account at the same time, so what remains cannot be traced back to you. Anything already written to Apple Health stays in the Health app, which is yours to manage; you can delete it there under Browse → Nutrition. If you would rather we did the deletion for you, email jignesh.dev.apps@gmail.com.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be erased — including under the EU/UK GDPR and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act. Email jignesh.dev.apps@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Data retention and security

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. Everything travels over encrypted HTTPS connections and is stored encrypted at rest by our hosting provider. No online service can promise perfect security, but access to your rows is restricted to your own authenticated session.

Children

NomCal is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top will change and the updated version will be published here before the change takes effect.
